  • Biography

    Elias Chatzitheodoridis is an Ass. Professor at the School of Metallurgy and Mining Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Originally a graduate of Earth Sciences, he continued his studies at an MSc and PhD level at the University of Manchester, England. During these studies he advanced state-of-the-art instrumental techniques, such as Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry, mainly in Earth and Planetary sciences and for Materials Science applications. His career through the years varies, working at public research institutes, universities and the industry. His research interests and the produced publications include fully interdisciplinary work with strong points that of analytical instrumentation (SIMS/TOF-SIMS, Raman/FTIR, SEM/EDS/EBSD, XRD, optical microscopy, and recently TEM, while currently is developing a LIBS system), photonics (3D-photonic crystals, fs-laser writing in materials), micromachining and microassembly (MEMS, automation, image pattern recognition) mineralogy and petrology (Martian meteorites, Ultra-high pressure rocks, diamonds and barometry) and lately cultural heritage preservation and cleaning as well as aspects of biology (related to space and astrobiology).
